Gear & Tips

Hey! A lot of people ask what I use to capture my shots, so here’s my setup and some tips to help you!

Gear I Use

Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T8i: my main imaging camera.

Telescope: SVBONY SV503 80ED: small but sharp for deep-sky objects.

Mount: iOptron CEM26: keeps the stars perfectly still while tracking.

Guiding Camera: ZWO ASI120MC: helps with longer exposures.

Filters: Optolong L eNhance light pollution filter: for capturing narrowband nebulae

Tips for Better Shots

  • Start simple. A camera + tripod is enough to get cool Milky Way shots.
  • Plan ahead. Use Stellarium for planning, I use Astrospheric for light pollution maps and weather.
  • Stack your images. I use DeepSkyStacker to reduce noise and boost detail.
  • Dark skies. Filters help, but darker skies help more.
  • Be patient. Some of my best shots took hours to get right.
